Throughout the year adidas has been making an effort to offer sustainable solutions to an array of their original silhouettes. Some of the most notable partnerships include working with Parley Ocean Plastic to create shoes with recycled plastic waste from the ocean. Now, adidas brings sustainability to skateboarding by way of the Paradigm x adidas Gazelle ADV.

Paradigm is an NYC-based publishing company founded by Theo Constantinou. Paradigm is known for curating a roster of artists and writers that create avant-garde books. Their latest project is a book known as “Life Before” – an official collaboration between adidas and Paradigm. This book is being released alongside a mini-doc called “Spread Light, Leave No Trace,” which features Mark Suciu. Both the book and the documentary take a look at the effects of global warming. The collaborative projects and apparel collection aim to enhance climate change awareness. The collection utilizes adidas’ eco-tech Primegreen and Primeblue, a series of high-performance recycled materials made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic.

This iteration of the adidas Gazelle ADV feels representative of the feelings that surround the topic of global warming. The sneaker has an all-black synthetic upper that feels grim. Deep purple details appear on the tongue, outsole, and co-branded logo on the lateral. Once you look past the gloomy colorway, you can see the sneaker for what it really is – a sustainable solution to outdated processes. Details on the rubber foxing and sole unit are made with recycled components. To complete the sneaker, Paradigm’s mission statement is printed on the back of the tongue labels.
