Strengths:
Durability
Cushioning
Forefoot Stability
What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘durability’? Things such as an armored truck, a tactical teflon vest, a Timberland Boot or maybe even Cal Ripken, Jr. are all labeled as some of the most durable products (or persons) ever. The adidas Pro Model line would be an undeniable selection to represent the basketball sneaker world in terms of durability. Ever since its inception into the sneaker game (1979), the adidas Pro Model has been a durability icon for adidas. We applaud adidas for continuing to evolve this sneaker over the years, and the new adidas Pro Model 2010 is a prime example and extenstion of this successful series.
Much like some of its recent predecessors, this adidas Pro Model 2010 relies on its highly-detailed synthetic materials to form a shell-like covering over the wearer’s foot. Some sneakers are primarily created on style and appeal, but they do not always win in the performance arena (see Nike Hyperflight). However, the adidas Pro Model 2010 defies this theory. It almost seems as if this Pro Model 2010 possesses a double shell of padding and patent leather from the inside of the shoe to the outside. Another important aspect of this shoe’s durability is its sturdy, rubber toe cap. Currently, the emphasis of most sneaker creations is lightweight capacity and support; yet, the adidas Pro Model 2010 directs some of its focus on a forgotten aspect: the toe area. The aforementioned rubber toe cap provides unmatched protection for the forefoot which is a very underrated element to have in a shoe. The toe area is a very vulnerable area and tends to get damaged by being stepped on many times during a game. The adidas Pro Model 2010 is a complete counteract for that.
Besides durability, the adidas Pro Model 2010 specializes forefoot cushioning and stability. adidas’ Injection-molded EVA midsole, which was also apart of some of its predecessors (adidas Pro Model 2G), provides the player with an extremely form-fitting cushioning support. In detail, the midsole acts as a leveled surface and provides a soft, reactive foundation when returning to the court after propelling. This also prevents the foot from sliding within the construction and makes for a very constant, structural court feel.
Weaknesses:
Response Time
The adidas Pro Model 2010 is easily one of the heaviest, bulky models on the market as of now. Therefore, it sacrifices in response time category. The adidas Pro Model 2010 will not necessarily slow you down, but it doesn’t play as quick, fast and/or sharp as other updated, higher-tech models. Weighing in at 15.1 ounces, the same qualities that make the Pro Model 2010 a durable monster also make this shoe a thicker, more weighty model.
Overview: The adidas Pro Model 2010 is ideal for those of you who long for a long-lasting durable basketball sneaker. You can undoubtedly rock this sneaker for an entire season (and then some if need be). The extra padding throughout the silhouette, along with the sturdy toe cap, makes for an untouchable model in terms of protection. Although other sneakers may play faster and rank better in lightweight capacity, the adidas Pro Model 2010 is definitely a great sneaker for those playing long seasons of basketball. It is also versatile and can be productively worn by all positions on the court. You can find multiple colorways of the adidas Pro Model 2010 at select retailers for $80.
