We won’t say it’s the end of an era, but times are definitely changing for Pharrell Williams, f.k.a. Sk8brd P. The multi-hyphenate creative says goodbye to some of his most prized possessions as he gets ready to launch a new luxury auction house known as JOOPITER.
For the platform’s first ever auction, P is set to place pieces from his personal archive up for bid. The offered pieces are undoubtedly some of the most influential in streetwear and sneaker history, with iconic kicks like the adidas Stan Smith “Swarovski,” BAPE STA “Spongebob,” Ice Cream Low “Busy Work Shop,” and more.
The various lots even include one-of-one jewelry pieces that immortalize the N.E.R.D and Sk8brd P era. Other early aughts keepsakes like a 18k gold-plated Blackberry 8700 and a matching Sony PSP are among the lots as well.
Some other jaw-dropping pieces include custom Goyard and Louis Vuitton trunks with the Star Trek logo, and even the striped polo shirt that Pharrell wore for the N.E.R.D. “Lapdance” music video.
Described as “A Space For Today’s Collector,” JOOPITER will seemingly join other highly touted auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s, presumably with more niche and subcultural offerings in the context of contemporary high street.
This venture has potential to be one of Pharrell’s biggest yet, with the ability to preserve and appraise art for years to come. With Jupiter being the planet that symbolizes luck and abundance, we couldn’t think of a more perfect name.
