The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is meant to celebrate the game in all of its facets; the inductees range from Dennis Rodman?to Dick Vitale. Nike co-founder Phil Knight will shortly be announced among the latest to receive the prestigious honor. Inducted as a part of the “contributors” category, Knight’s impact on the globalization and popularity of basketball is undeniable. The famous taglines, such as “Be Like Mike”, and advertising, such as Charles Barkley‘s “I am not a role model” campaign, are legendary. Nike sponsors USA basketball, and it just so happened that every athlete on this year’s gold medal winning team was Nike sponsored athlete, including Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. Not to mention, back in 1984 he threw what was considered a pile of money at a young man named Michael Jordan, and we all know how that turned out. We at Nice Kicks would like to send out personal congrats to Mr. Knight. It is an honor well deserved. “The Swoosh” will live forever. Tune in right now to NBATV to see it live.
