Last night at Franklin Park Mall in Toledo, OH, police were called in to help control a large lineup for the Air Jordan 11 “Legend Blue” ticketing release. At one point, the crowd became so unruly that a police officer was knocked over and pepper spray was used on the crowd.
It’s unfortunate that incidents like this still happen across the country and that there isn’t a fool-proof method to release high profile sneakers like such. (One reader, @Airspider23 actually suggested pre-ordering pairs like the gaming industry– not a bad idea.)
The good news or positive takeaway from this incident is that because of the ticketing system, police in Toledo (and hopefully cities across the country) are now working with mall security to better handle the release on Saturday. While reports say that no one was hurt or arrested, it is said that police may pursue criminal charges against those that helped incite the pushing and commotion.
If you plan on purchasing or picking up the Air Jordan 11 “Legend Blue” this weekend, especially from a large mall, please be as safe as possible and go with multiple friends during peak mall hours. No pair of sneakers are worth endangering one’s health. As most know, numerous retailers will also sell this shoe online. Be safe.
