We spoke to adidas Skateboarding pro rider and Nothing Special hardware founder Diego Nájera on his signature colorway of the adidas Forum 84 ADV and what influenced and brought the sneaker together. Check out our Q&A below.
First off, congratulations on the signature Forum 84 ADV with adidas Skateboarding. What made you choose this 1980’s basketball sneaker?
Thank you! I really appreciate it! I’ve always been into mid-tops – the snug feeling of them around my feet and the comfort and support it provides. On top of that, the history and design behind the Forum 84 itself gives a lot of character, which drew me in and what inspired me to wanna skate and design one for myself. It’s very comfortable and a great shoe overall.
Are there any changes you made to the Forum to accommodate what you like in a skate sneaker? What was the design and wear testing process like?
As for changes, the Forum 84 model was redesigned for skateboarding but maintained the original DNA. Keeping the shoe how it was visually with just subtle improvements under the hood for skateboarding. The design includes a thinned out tongue, alternative outer and inner materials with added colors I prefer. The style and details were some things I took into consideration when it came to putting my own spin on it. The sneaker is a mix of its ‘80s self with some modern updates.
Wear test for the sneaker has been a great time! I’ve been filming and skating a lot in this shoe and it’s easily my top shoe to skate in. The shoe feels and skates so well, and I’m especially big on skating leather sneakers.
The sneaker pays homage to your love for the car and tuning community. Is there a specific car that this adidas Forum has ties to? What’s in the garage currently?
This sneaker pays homage to my love for cars in my own particular way with inspiration from the current build on my BMW M2C. It’s in Hockenheim silver which gives off pearlescent colors in different lightings that’ll reflect in multiple shades. It’s matched up with blue interior stitching, which balances with the sneakers and other materials and colors that can relate with one another. In the garage currently, I got the M2C and a Q50S. Thankful for it all!

What’s next for you and Nothing Special? Should we expect a video part in the near future?
I’m going to continue stackin’ clips, building with homies and keeping it all moving. For Nothing Special, we’re currently finishing up a collaboration project with my homie Moon for Mafia motorsports, a car shop out in Gardena. We’re dropping a full collection along with an edit with some cinematography help from my homie Mike Koziel.
I’m for sure gonna drop a new video part in the near future. Been stackin’ up clips in the streets and thankful for it all!
The adidas Skateboarding x Forum 84 ADV by Diego Nájera will retail for $110 and will drop on July 24th at 10 AM EST via the adidas Confirmed app and select skate retailers worldwide.
