From 1989 to a store near you, the Reebok BB 4000 II will be returning to the global sneaker market this month. This basketball-turned-lifestyle silhouette is a sleek sneaker that transcended the game and became a staple beyond the Reebok BB line. While October 2022 marks the sneaker’s official return, you can expect to see new colorways and collaborations from this model throughout 2023 and beyond.

The Reebok BB series was first introduced in 1986 as a follow-up to the company’s successful tennis and aerobics lines. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Reebok fashioned some of the market’s most disruptive court sneakers, top-tier athlete partnerships, and energetic ads that influenced basketball culture at large. Reebok’s BB line would go on to help bridge the gap between sport and street through the release the Reebok BB 4000 II.

“Not many brands can genuinely play in both sport and lifestyle like Reebok,” commented Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky. “At Reebok, style is classic – it’s synonymous with heritage and authenticity. With the revival of BB 4000 II, we’re excited to bring to market a shoe that embodies who we are, balancing performance roots with vintage style, while evolving our rich basketball archive for today’s consumer.”

In 2022, the 1989 Reebok BB 4000 II looks refreshed and ready to return to the game. Subtle revamps give the sneaker a modern touch using the premium leather overlays, EVA rubber midsole, and a durable outsole with classic basketball tooling. Elements like the split Union Jack tongue logo, Reebok Sidestripe, and cross-check branding all nod the brand’s 80’s heritage.

The sneaker circles back in colorways of “White/Green,” “Black/Orange,” and “White/Red.” Each colorway pays homage to street culture and basketball during the ’80s and ’90s.

The “White/Green” iteration nods to the BB during the Boston Celtic’s ‘86 playoff run, which also happens to be the home team for Reebok’s U.S. headquarters. The “Black/Orange” edition honors the Reebok Pump Omni Zone and Dee Brown’s historic “no look” dunk. The “White/Red” colorway looks back to the ‘90s and Reebok’s Pump Twilight Zone.

The Reebok BB 4000 II officially returns on October 28, 2022. The retail price is set at $90. To purchase, visit Reebok.com and other select retailers like Extra Butter and Courir. For more sneaker news and release dates, follow @NiceKicks on Twitter.
