A brief while ago we listed the Top 10 Signature Basketball Lines where Shawn Kemp snuck his way onto the list thanks in large part to this shoe – the Reebok Kamikaze II. Following the success of The Pump that first made its way to Reebok basketball sneakers in 1989, the brand did have some successful years between the days of the Pump and DMX (which came with the Reebok Answer I). The Kamikaze II featured the lightweight and quite comfortable Reebok Hexalite cushioning in the heel and forefoot.
Shawn Kemp experienced what many would argue to be his best season in 1995-96 averaging a double-double, putting up 19.6 points per game while snatching 11.4 rebounds. Kemp made his way to the 1996 NBA All Star Game and lead the Sonics to the NBA Finals but fell victim to the 72-10 regular season Chicago Bulls. Reebok bought back the Kamikaze a few years ago in disappointing fashion with an added Pump that was not on the original and little-to-no marketing to support its release. One can only hope that Reebok will grant us a return of the Kamikaze II, but for now we will have to just sit, wait, and beg. |
