Kevin Durant‘s Nike contract expired last week, and recently he cancelled a scheduled trip to the brand’s headquarters where he would have most likely been discussing a new deal. KD is from Maryland. Under Armour was founded, and is still based, in Maryland.
According to Maryland-based Baltimore Business Journal, the two DMV products now have a chance at linking up with an endorsement deal that would pay the reigning NBA MVP $30 million a year. Durant has been a Swoosh shooter since he came into the league after singing a seven-year $60 million deal, but as a sneaker free agent can choose his next endorsement freely. Adding fuel to the fire, UA’s senior manager of sports marketing Michael McBride tweeted while KD was supposed to be at Nike: “Wish I could tell everyone what is going on today. #Future #GoodPeople #Recruiting #Partnerships”.
According to Forbes, the Thunder star sold around $175 million worth of his signature shoes in 2013 alone, second only to LeBron James’ $300 million. Could Kevin Durant be following King James’ hometown-bound trend? Drop your thoughts in the comment box below, and keep refreshing Nice Kicks for any future developments.
