Japanese label Sacai were among the many high-end brands to showcase its spring/summer 2019 collection during Paris Fashion Week. Chitose Abe’s label was unique in that its presentation would feature a preview of their upcoming collection with Nike — a long tenured partnership that continues into next year.
True to their progressive origins, Sacai marveled Paris onlookers with layered variations of several classic Swoosh silhouettes. Shown through dimensions of overlapping branding and midsole tooling, the first of two styles combines the Nike Waffle and the Nike LDV. Its counterpart smartly curates a similar look and feel by joining the Blazer Mid and Dunk High.
Of the many themes running concurrently, the exposed double tongue construction serves as the most influential. Both taking from Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten” while also exaggerating that singular thought, layered Swoosh branding serves as a growing theme among Nike releases that can be rewarded to innovative minds within the brand and impactful external factors like John Geiger.
It’s reported this Sacai x Nike Spring/Summer 2019 collection will release sometime around January 2019.
