The Nike Zoom Cortez x sacai Prepares for an August Arrival

As one of the most iconic and timeless sneaker silhouettes, the Nike Cortez has big things planned for its 50th Anniversary in 2022. Throughout the year we’re sure to see tributes and collabs, which we’ve already gotten a sneak peek of through LA-based boutique Union. Additionally, Nike announced that Chitose Abe will be joining in on the celebration as sacai is set to rework the Nike Cortez.

Designed by Nike co-founders Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, the Nike Cortez was initially developed as a track shoe for the 1972 Olympics. The Nike Cortez has withstood the test of time through many eras and phases, leading up to its eventual status as the unofficial mascot for LA street style. We saw this theme come to life recently with the Nike Cortez “Los Angeles,” which may be a hint of what to expect for the upcoming year. Yet with Sacai on board to collaborate on the Nike Cortez, it’s probably best to expect the unexpected.

sacai has become one of the most exciting Nike collaborators in recent years and we’re sure that their signature touch will spark some buzz. The sneaker is seen in the classic OG colorway with sacai touches throughout. White leather is used on the base with suede overlays on the laces and heel and comes ready with signature sacai elements including double Swooshes and an extended midsole, which includes a Zoom Air bubble at the forefront of the shoe.

The Nike Zoom Cortez x sacai “University Red” drops on August 31st via SNKRS and select retailers for $185. Raffles from Social Status and A Ma Maniere are already open, with more raffles beginning soon.
