At last a drop date is on the horizon. In the past we have given you the news about the Santa Cruz x Puma First Round “Screaming Hand”, but here is a quick recap for those who may have missed prior articles.

Santa Cruz is an original in the skateboarding scene first hitting the streets in the mid 1970s. One of the first hires of the company was Jim Phillips, a legendary rock poster artist & art director for Santa Cruz skateboards from 1975 ??? 1990. In 1987, Phillips created the “Screaming Hand” graphic for the brand which would transcend through and outside of the skate culture.

That year, 1987, was also a significant one for Puma with the introduction of the high top version of the Suede called the First Round. Though a high top model of a 1960’s basketball shoe, the Puma First Round was adopted by skaters who liked the padded ankle, higher cut, and grip on the board. The shoe even made the cover of THRASHER magazine back in the day giving the shoe instant skate cred.

Paying tribute to Santa Cruz, Jim Phillips, and those who wore this shoe more than 20 years ago, Puma worked with Santa Cruz to created a special “Screaming Hand” edition First Round. Along with the shoes, a T-shirt was also made to compliment the release. Distribution, not surprisingly, is pretty limited so it would be strongly advised to check in with your local Puma spots that get rare releases. The release date for the Santa Cruz x Puma First Rounds is Saturday, August 30th. Pics thanks to Mita.
