Shoe Gallery is no stranger to solid sneaker projects. The South Florida shop has been instrumental to not only some solid collaborations, but also had their hands in some shoes lusted after that even their frontman Danny Waserstein is too humble to talk about. Next up for them is a project with New Balance on the New Balance 580REV. While the MT580 has seen its fair share of collabs since being introduced in Japan, the New Balance 580REV only has had its number called a couple times.
We caught up with Danny Waserstein to talk shop and get some quick answers about the upcoming project:
Nice Kicks: Danny, tell us about this one. I know that you have something more behind it than just a solid colorup.
Danny: First and foremost, cycling is a sport that I love and I consider myself to be a serious cyclist. For that reason, when my New Balance sales rep, David, (who also is a fellow cyclist) first showed me the 580 Revlite and I felt how lightweight is was, it immediately sparked conversation about the difference in aluminum framed and carbon fiber framed bikes! It was great to see a retro model incorporate new lightweight technology.
Nice Kicks: I know we’ve chatted about bikes, sneakers, but most of all tech. Tell me about that.
Danny: It brings about the same excitement, to me, as seeing the retro “bicycle” integrate new technology to progress the sport which is what the technological segment of this sport is all about.
Nice Kicks: I noticed the materials were not the norm of what you see on shoes. What’s the story on those?
Danny: The execution of the materials/colorway was inspired by my favorite cycling apparel brand Rapha and wanted to incorporate their minimalist look and feel. Once we sat down with New Balance to discuss our cycling inspired 580 Revlite, they informed us about the partnership they have with Garmnin and the color story was just automatic!
