Welcome to Sneaker Anatomy, a detailed look at the technology, materials and design points that distinguish new and iconic footwear models. In today’s introductory installment, we highlight the much-discussed Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape”. Get to the know the construction and composition of the “Black Grape” Vs in Sneaker Anatomy.
Durabuck Upper
The Air Jordan 5 has seen a variety of upper options, ranging from leather on various OG installments to 3M on the likes of the “Green Bean” and graphite “Toro Bravo” take. Black durabuck, a shorter cut version of suede, covers the majority of the upper on the “Black Grape” 5s. The result is a finish that is smooth, soft and richly saturated to match the midsole.
Plastic Eyelets
Aesthetically, the Air Jordan 5 features three sets of plastic eyelets on each side. The “Black Grape” eyelets take on a flat black finish. From a functional standpoint, the dual sets of lace loops in each eyelet allow for a customizable fit.
