Kanye West has dominated the media for the past few weeks. After rocking the new, all-red colorway of the Nike Air Yeezy II, and dropping his much anticipated Yeezus album, it’s safe to say he will be the topic of conversation for a little while longer. In this installment of Sneaker Nicknames Explained, we discuss the reasoning behind some of the names of Kanye’s more popular sneakers. Nike Air Yeezy 1 “Blink”
Four years after its release, the first Nike Air Yeezy is still a very sought after shoe. The “Blink” Yeezy 1 was one of the favorites due to its use of pink coloring and glow in the dark sole. Much like the “Bred” nickname, “Blink” derives from sneaker enthusiasts’ combining the two main colors (black and pink) involved in the color description. Some referred to the black-based Yeezy 2 by the same nickname prior to ‘solar red’ being announced as the official hue.
