As sneaker culture persists in expanding across multiple genres, film is the latest sector in which the kicks community looks to spread its wings. Next week marks the beginning of South by Southwest (SXSW), and the growing diversity in its film component. Sneakerheadz, produced by Academy Award nominee David T. Friendly, will see its debut in Austin, Texas at this years SXSW festival. The film offers an in-depth narrative of sneaker culture and the lengths many are willing to go to secure their grails. What’s more, the film documents cultural differences between places like California and Toyko, while also highlighting our shared love for kicks in a positive light, one that labels sneakers as collectible works of art. The film also features commentary for personalities including Wale, Jeremy Guthrie, Jeff Staple, DJ Skee, Frank the Butcher, Ben Baller, Futura, and many more.
Sneakerheadz will premiere at SXSW on Monday, March 16 at 9pm at the Vimeo Theater.
