Heels got the boot at New York Fashion Week as designer Alexander Wang unveiled his Spring 2015 collection inspired entirely by sneakers. While the ladies still walked down the runway in formal footwear, the dresses, tops, accessories and more derived from kicks of the classic and current variety. Highlights included the use of obvious but still iconic elephant print, Air Jordan 6 elements incorporated into both bags and dresses, a range of perforated white dresses with green collars that drew from the adidas Stan Smith, as well as nods to Flyknits, Wovens and New Balances on other pieces.

While wearers generally use wardrobe as a form of self expression, designers are more apt to use their work as a form of opinion or social commentary. For Alexander Wang– one of the hottest, most well respected and busiest designers in the industry– to make an entire line dedicated to sneakers says a lot about both the culture and the craze. Let us know your take on the collection in the comment section.
