Bape teams up with legendary Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama for a capsule collection that looks to the future. Known for his iconic “Sexy Robot” paintings and sculptures, Sorayama has been active as an artist since the 1980’s, but is seeing a resurgence with notable collabs like Dior. For this collection, Sorayama brings his signature chrome aesthetic to fellow Japanese label, Bape. The capsule features a coach jacket, t-shirts, a tote bag, and even Bearbricks, as Sorayama is an in-house designer for Medicom Toys. But the real star of the show is the coveted pair of Sorayama Bapestas.
The Bapestas look better than ever as they’re dressed in shiny Sorayama chrome. The front of the shoe has a chrome lace-cover, with a translucent overlay that features Bape’s signature camo. This corresponds with the Bapesta shooting star on the lateral side, that also features the translucent overlay of Bape camo. Finishing details include “Sorayama” printed on the back heel counter and robo-snaps on the removable lace covers.
The Soryama x Bape Bapesta will be releasing with the rest of the capsule collection on July 31, 2021 via Bape’s webstore and their flagship locations. Take a look at the full collection below and be sure to keep it locked on @NiceKicks for more sneaker release dates.
