Multi-hyphenate Tyler, The Creator has enlisted 21-year-old artist Spencer McMullen for the latest Converse Artist Series Chuck 70. As part of Converse’s on-going Artist Series, the iconic Chuck 70’s canvas upper sports hand-drawn work by McMullen himself.
Each colorful drawing was made in Spencer’s LA-based home studio and features portraits, characters and a variety of verbiage. “After growing up with the brand, applying my artwork to this sneaker was really a dream come true,” said McMullen in an official press release. “But I didn’t want to disrupt the silhouette too much, because it is perfect in its simplicity. So, over a few months, I worked on new drawings and paintings to feature on the canvas, pulling inspiration from real stories that are documented around me – like books and photos on the internet of my life back in Jacksonville. I also kept a new, blank Chuck 70 on my desk to look at every day and I spread all my work on the floor around me to assess and arrange in different ways.”
McMullen first met Tyler when he was 16 years old. Check out his work on the Chuck 70 above and below. The Spencer McMullen x Converse Chuck 70 is slated to release on April 23 at select retailers and Converse.com for $100.
