Today, December 3rd, 2012, Jordan Brand held a launch event for the much anticipated Air Jordan XX8, a shoe that the brand kept under wraps for quite some time. The Air Jordan XX8 is easily and undoubtedly the most unique silhouette in the prestigious line with its 8-inch height (the highest cut basketball shoe ever made) and its stretch-synthetic shroud.
At the beginning of the event, Larry Miller, president of Jordan Brand, kindly welcomed the media before bringing out film director and longtime Jordan Brand supporter Spike Lee. Lee then entertained the crowd with a rundown of Brooklyn’s rich history before bringing out one of Brooklyn’s finest in the form of Carmelo Anthony. For about 10 minutes, both talked about basketball, Jordan Brand and their connections with some of New York’s greats, such as Bernard King.
Shortly after, we were escorted upstairs to the showroom where the Air Jordan XX8 unveiling would take place in a matter of minutes. However, before the entree, Jordan Brand provided us with an appetizer in the form of an all-black-everything Air Jordan retro display (more on that tomorrow) that featured the Air Jordan 1, the Air Jordan 2012 and every silhouette in between.
Finally, the presentation began with Spike Lee introducing to us Tinker Hatfield, who was later joined by Air Jordan XX8 Co-Designer Josh Heard and Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook. Hatfield and Heard discussed everything about the Air Jordan XX8, including the?difficulties they faced while creating this shoe, its performance attributes and aesthetics, while Russell confirmed that he will wear the latest from Jordan Brand in tomorrow’s matchup against the Nets at the Barclays Center.
