Steph Curry‘s Under Armour deal is a match made in heaven. It’s one of the great stories that continues to grow more enjoyable as it unfolds. But there was a time when Steph was being courted by all the major brands, UA included. And it was his daughter, Riley Curry, that ultimately swayed him to greener pastures.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Steph details the experience that led to his signing with Under Armour. When presented with three shoes, one from Under Armour, Nike and adidas, Riley threw the first shoe over her shoulder. She did the same with another. That shoe was the Under Armour Anatomic Spawn. “So I knew right then,” Curry said about Riley’s distinct decision.
The article goes on to dissect a prior pitch meeting with Nike, which Steph’s father, Dell Curry, described as a disaster. First, Stephen’s name was mispronounced. Then, during a powerpoint presentation, Kevin Durant’s name appeared on-screen, implicating Nike in duplicating their pitch process. “I stopped paying attention after that,” Dell expressed. Yikes.
