In the world of sneakers, no different from the world at large, nothing moves without women. They are the catalyst for all that evolves, all that revolves. Finally working with the informed notion that this truth wasn’t long dormant, sporting brands are finally placing women at the forefront of new designs, releases, and collaborations.
From Yoon Ahn of AMBUSH to Harlem’s Fashion Row, Aleali May to Serena Williams, Nike/Jordan Brand has found an admirable path to servitude while simultaneously serving itself — both honoring the importance of the female voice while equally understanding that it’s critical to business success.
The latest partnering release comes with Rox Brown, the New York City stylist whose eye for style has informed looks for Lil Yachty, Katy Perry, and Young Thug, whom she placed in an Alessandro Trincone dress on the album art for Jeffery. But Rox is more than a stylist; she’s a self-made woman like the others listed above.
Brown, later this month, like Aleali May before her, will release a collaborative Air Jordan 1. Far more subtle in comparison, Rox’s pair is covered black nubuck and silky satin fabrication. A large rose marks the heel while a much smaller iteration overlays a silver Swoosh on the tongue.
Earlier this year Brown was featured in a Jordan Brand campaign at Nike Soho. Her connection to the brand certainly spans further but this appears to be at least one jumping off point for this new collaboration that’s expected to release very soon.
The Rox Brown x Air Jordan 1 will release next week on December 12. We can also confirm that Brown will be working with Nike Sportswear in the future on an apparel offering and more.
