Tomorrow, Supreme will drop their next collaboration with Italian luxury sportswear brand Stone Island at Supreme and Stone Island stores in Europe and the US. The first collaboration between the two streetwear giants came in 2014 and every collection since has been a hypebeast’s dream. The collection is sure to sell out in minutes, but that doesn’t mean every piece will shower you with confidence or compliments. Luckily with such a huge collaboration many of the fire lookbook items get pushed to the wayside. Thankfully, this means some of us more subtle ‘preme heads can cop said items with ease.
With a breakdown of the Stone Island collection here are this week’s Supreme Bangers, Sleepers and Duds. Agree or disagree? Let us know your own picks in the comments section
Bangers
The Lamy Cover Stampato Puffy Jacket, or Puffy Jacket for short, will easily be the most sought-after item of the drop. At first glance you might think that someone is dressing up as Kim K at the Met Gala for Halloween but this piece is not just fire but also functional. The jacket is “Hyper Lightweight” and injected with down feather fill. The piece comes ready to keep you warm with a removable hood and facemask with a 3M Stone Island Logo.
A puffy jacket is a staple to any collection in the winter; nearly everyone from an old lady in Italy to that kid in A Christmas Story has one, but this piece will definitely stand out in a crowd. The estimated retail for this piece is $900-$1000, which is steep for sure but most Stone Island Down Jackets retail in the same ballpark and they ain’t Preme though.
Last up on the bangers list are the Olive sweats. If you struck out on the olive kit from the last Supreme x The North Face collaboration and are still beating yourself up about it (like I am) then these are a must cop.
The Hooded Sweatshirt and the Sweatpants are garment dyed cotton fleece with 3M Stone Island and Supreme branding. The Stone Island patch itself is not reflective, however, the blank patches featured on the hood, sleeves and outside of the calf are reflective.
These items have an estimated retail of $340 for the hoodie and $260 for the sweatpants. While these are still on the pricey side for some sweats they are significantly cheaper than the Puffy Jacket (even combined) so expect these sweats to sell out first.
Sleepers
Yeah, I know I said this entire collection will sell out in minutes so technically there aren’t any ‘sleepers’ this week, but the following pieces are the more subdued and less popular which should make for fewer cart ninjas as you check out.
The Poly Cover Composite Anorak, or raincoat, will be available in three separate colorways with an estimated retail as high as $650 come Thursday. The more subtle of the colorways, the black anorak, is the most wearable. Due to its color, this anorak doesn’t feature as much opacity as the other coats which will make it easy to throw on with any fit.
In truth, this is a simple black anorak and because of that this won’t be a piece the resalers have in their scopes. However, as a true fan of these brands, you’ll know that you’re stunting on everyone else walking their dogs in the rain with that embossed logo on your back.
A Stoney football top adds a subtle flex to any wardrobe. According to social media, the S/S Top isn’t gaining as much traction as the rest of the collection. Obviously, this is still a hyped item but these tops are the most wearable pieces of the collection as you do not have to base your entire fit around a floral pattern or see-through jacket. With an estimated retail of $130 this a more affordable piece to add to your collection.
The hooded sweatshirt is going to sell out first, but the white colorway is the sleeper out of the group. In the lookbook, the 3M doesn’t pop off like the rest of the hoodies and the white garment fades into the background making this colorway vanish from most radars. White hoodies are a solid layering piece for the winter as they can be worn under light denim jackets, flannels or hockey jerseys with ease.
Duds
I mentioned before that the black anorak was the more wearable of the three, now I can tell you that’s because I find the other two to be quite grim. The yellow colorway is a classic color for a rain coat, but it’s not a color that you can wear often and at this price point you want to get your money’s worth. The fit of the garment itself already looks like you’ve been soaked in the rain. It’s possible that the stylist for the lookbook overlooked what a red top under a teal opaque anorak would look like but the more you imagine using other colors as a base the less it seems to work. Teal is typically a good color for Supreme and one that sells well, so if you cop please post a fit on social media with #NiceKicksPremeFits and prove me wrong.
While the sweats are at the top of most people’s lists and as I’ve said before that they will sell out first, this doesn’t mean that every color should. These days the full kit is go-to for most hypebeasts on the gram, and some of the fits are fairly dope, but a full orange sweatsuit makes you look like a cast member from Orange Is the New Black. The orange hooded sweatshirt can be worked into a fit with a little work, like under a navy Harrington or a camo field jacket, but it’s going to be quiet for whoever tries to pull off the orange sweatpants. Again, feel free to prove me wrong if you cop. #NiceKicksPremeFits
Last and least, the Lamy 6-Panel. This hat isn’t going to hold its shape very well as it is made of the same “hyper lightweight” material as the shell from the down jacket. I was completely joking before about the Kim K at the Met Gala, but in this instance, it’s hard to make the floral pattern work on a cap without it looking like your grandma’s sofa. With the Puffy Jacket, you can change up the look with different types of denim or dress up the jacket with a crisp white button-up underneath. The hat, on the other hand, doesn’t work well with most outfits unless your wear solid neutral colors (greys, blacks or browns) and if that’s your steeze then more power to ya. The estimated retail of this 6-panel is between $100 and $150.
