Nike KD History
The Kevin Durant shoe line with Nike debuted in 2008, shortly after Durant entered the NBA. The first model, the Nike KD 1, reflected Durant’s simple and efficient playing style, offering a mix of lightweight performance and affordability. The early KD shoes were designed with Durant’s versatility in mind, combining comfort and control for all-around players.
As Durant’s game evolved, so did his signature line. Notable models like the KD 4 (2011) introduced the popular Adaptive Fit strap, which provided enhanced lockdown and became a hallmark of the KD series. The KD 6 (2013) featured a low-top design and a sleek, modern silhouette inspired by Durant’s love for watches, marking a significant departure from earlier models.
Over the years, collaborations and innovations continued to push the line forward. The KD 9 incorporated Flyknit technology, offering a perfect blend of flexibility and support, while the KD 12 (2019) featured full-length Zoom Air cushioning for added responsiveness. Throughout its evolution, the KD line has experimented with vibrant colorways and special editions, collaborating with artists and designers, and responding to trends like minimalist designs and sustainability in newer models like the extremely popular KD 15.
Durant’s line has remained one of Nike’s most enduring, reflecting both his personal growth and the ever-changing landscape of basketball footwear.
