Nike Air Zoom GT Cut History
The Nike Air Zoom GT Cut first debuted in 2021 as part of Nike’s Greater Than (GT) series, aimed at maximizing athletic performance. Designed specifically for basketball, the GT Cut catered to quick, agile players who rely on swift movements and cutting actions on the court. The shoe’s standout feature was its responsive cushioning system, combining a full-length Zoom Air Strobel and an additional Zoom Air unit in the heel, providing a balance of comfort, court feel, and explosiveness.
With the GT Cut, Nike focused on improving control and reducing the risk of injury. The low-profile design allowed for greater stability, and its lightweight build enhanced maneuverability. Its purpose was to help players “cut” through defenders, making it ideal for guards and forwards who rely on sharp, sudden movements.
Following its initial success, Nike launched the GT Cut 2 in 2022, and then the GT Cut 3 in 2024. These versions retained the essential features but introduced refinements like improved traction and durability. Over time, the GT Cut line became popular not only among professionals but also in the sneaker culture scene, as its sleek design and high-performance features resonated with both athletes and casual wearers alike.
