adidas D.ON History
The Donovan Mitchell shoe line, known as the D.O.N. Issue series, kicked off in 2019 when Mitchell partnered with Adidas to bring his unique style to the basketball court. The D.O.N., standing for “Determination Over Negativity,” mirrors Mitchell’s journey from an underdog to an NBA star. The debut model, D.O.N. Issue #1, featured a low-profile build and eye-catching colorways inspired by comic book heroes and Mitchell’s nickname, “Spida.”
Following the success of the first release, the line evolved rapidly, with Adidas releasing the D.O.N. Issue #2 in 2020. This model introduced a more refined silhouette, enhanced support, and additional cushioning, aiming to boost performance while still embracing bold colorways and storytelling. Special editions like the “Crayola” pack tapped into nostalgic themes, while other releases paid homage to Marvel superheroes and Mitchell’s love for comic books.
In recent years, the D.O.N. Issue #3 and Issue #4 have continued the trend of blending functionality with fashion. Adidas incorporated advanced Lightstrike cushioning and improved materials for a sleeker, lighter feel. Each model has introduced new colorways, unique design tweaks, and even sustainable materials in line with Adidas’ environmental goals, cementing the D.O.N. line as a key player in modern basketball footwear.
