words // Nick DePaula:
“Whooooooooo these are sick.”
That was my instant reaction that I texted over to my daily hoop group chat just now.
On first sight, just at a quick glance, this new HyperRev 2016 is INCREDIBLE.
There’s two quick cues drafting from past icons — the oversized slanted Swoosh from the Shake NDestrukt of twenty years ago, and a Mag-esque heel rubberized counter.
From there, the rest of Tony Hardman’s design is awesomely funky, as we’ve come to expect from a HyperRev series that to date has drastically shifted each year.
Much like the 2014, there’s a uniquely conforming and veering collar silhouette. And now there’s a midfoot strap too, folding over from lateral to medial for some added lockdown through the composite mesh upper. That toe down is also just amazing.
It’s the type of fun and irreverent design that’s powered the Nike Basketball legacy over the last two decades.
The highly sculpted and radiused midsole and outsole also transitions to a new grid pattern traction configuration, with both heel and forefoot podular outlines housing the model’s Zoom Air units.
Best of all?
This is just an all black colorway.
There will be energy launches. PEs for Paul George. Hopefully some killer NIKEiD options too.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store. Can’t wait to hoop in these. And can’t wait to see what else 2016 brings.
