Now more than a month removed from 2018, sales trends from the past 12 months are beginning to surface revealing the most purchased sneakers of the last fiscal year. NPD Group, for which this data has been provided, tallies not units sold but the total dollar amount from various big box retailers.
Nike’s unrelenting dominance continues as it did in 2017. Among the top ten best-selling sneakers of last year, Nike and its subsidiaries account for 80%. Their forceful trio that includes the company mothership, Jordan Brand and Converse, holistically engulf sneaker sales with a clinching grip. Few expect that to change in 2019.
However, the most surprising addition to this year’s top ten is the emergence of the adidas Yeezy Boost 350. Once an extremely limited sneaker that was also only available at premium retailers in lieu of malls or standalone chains, adidas’ widening of the shoe’s reach by increasing its numbers has proven dividends. Kanye’s design cracks the list as the ninth best-selling sneaker of last year.
Jordan Brand’s Air Jordan 11 ranks fourth on the list due in large part to the “Concord” release during the holiday season. The all-time sneaker resides just below Converse’s Chuck Taylor Low at number three. Also noteworthy is the Vans Ward that lands at number six.
The best-selling sneaker of 2018 may not surprise industry experts but it’s undeniably a head turner for consumers. Check out the list below for all ten of the best-selling sneakers.
