A New Hope // The Flightposite Series

Following three signature silhouettes at the turn of the century, the 2000’s saw Garnett get behind Nike’s Flightposite line. It was a matrimony made in heaven. Garnett was light, nimble and with a handle no one else his size could muster. Whether with his back to the basket, at the top of the key or on the break, KG was a threat and he needed a shoe to emphasize his versatility; the Nike Air Flightposite I and II were perfect. KG wore a PE model during the Sydney Olympics in 2000, along with several other variations of the shoe before he and Nike went their separate ways in 2001.

Their seven-year stretch was a successful one, memorable, and a time capsule for a generation. Nike was taking more creative liberties than ever before, and Garnett’s revolutionary game was perfect leverage. His trajectory during this span of his career was pivotal. We fell in love with the kid. He snarled back, banged his chest like Kong, and spoke loudly while no one else was around. That just might have been his way of reciprocating that love.
