Turmoil Upon Arrival
During the 2002-2003 NBA season, Kobe Bryant found himself to be a sneaker free agent rocking various iconic models. This trend would not last long as Kobe would eventually sign with the Swoosh, inking a 5-year, $40-million contract. Bryant would place the brand in a precarious situation as he was charged with sexual assault only days after the deal. With that adverse situation looming, Nike shelved any talks of a Kobe line in the near future and the Mamba proceeded to rock the Nike Huarache 2k4 and the Nike Huarache 2k5 during that time period. The charges were eventually dismissed, and Kobe’s signature line went on as planned.
