The upcoming TroubleSmile x ASICS GEL-Kahana TR V4 showcases the streetwear-centered partnership between the Japanese sportswear giant ASICS and the Chinese brand TroubleSmile.

Originally launched as an all-terrain shoe, the ASICS GEL-Kahana TR V4 was designed to tackle diverse outdoor environments while incorporating ASICS’ signature GEL cushioning for maximum comfort. The latest version maintains its rugged roots but gains a stylish upgrade through TroubleSmile’s creative lens.

While the shoe’s exact inspiration has not been confirmed, it’s believed that the kits worn by the Japan Football Association in the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France serve as the muse for the fiery pair. TroubleSmile’s latest picture of the shoe adds strength to the theory as the shoe rests on a set of lookalike jerseys.

The kits are renowned for the bold flame graphic on the sleeves and a vibrant color palette, with the goalkeeper’s kit showcasing even more intense flame motifs. The combination of the unconventional design and the team’s first-ever World Cup appearance solidified the kits’ place in both sports and fashion history.

In the years since, the kits have become a beloved piece of nostalgia, influencing streetwear trends in Japan and globally. The bold graphics and their unique look have been referenced in fashion collections, becoming a symbol of Japan’s creative approach to sportswear.

Now, TroubleSmile celebrates ASICS’ rich, fashion-forward design with its latest collaboration.

The TroubleSmile x ASICS GEL-Kahana TR V4 releases on August 16, 2024, exclusively in China at ASICS’ Chengdu store. A wider release date has not been announced.
