Under Armour officially launched the all-new Gridiron Trainer in Los Angeles earlier today. An event for the introduction of the Trainer was hosted by the Under Armour team and specifically featured the brand’s Senior Design Manager Dave Dombrow and Senior Footwear Designer Ross Klein (oh, and Brandon Jennings showed up, which was awesome). The former discussed how the Gridiron Trainer is a symbol of UA “getting back to their roots” in terms of standard football performance footwear, while Klein gave us a detailed rundown of what this shoe entails.

Klein also detailed UA endorsees Arian Foster and Julio Jones’ imprint on the development of the Gridiron Trainer. “Arian wanted us to focus on helping him have a lower center of gravity,” said Klein. “That’s really important to him.”

The Gridiron Trainer owns a sleek, lightweight running shoe feel. Super-Flex, an extremely soft neoprene textile, is incorporated at the front of the shoe for great durability. The overall ride of the shoe is responsive, stable and features extreme lockdown thanks to the Midfoot Speed Strap. One of the Trainer’s best attributes is the Speed Turf traction, which features a ton of mini nubs that slant diagonally for extra grip against turf.

The Under Armour Gridiron Trainer is available now at Foot Locker stores and Footlocker.com in men’s ($100) and boys grade school ($80) sizes. Check out a recap of the launch event below, and be on the lookout for more coverage regarding the Gridiron Trainer.
