Yesterday, news broke that the Just Don x Air Jordan 2 raffle ticket giveaway at 21 Mercer was shut down by the NYPD. First reported by the The Shoe Game, video and photo account from TopShelf Kicks confirmed such notions. While it appeared clear that there was no violence or unruly commotion to cause the cancellation, we spoke with AG from TopShelf Kicks who verified the scene at the release:

“Man it was crazy. I went out there for the AJ1 Fragments and this line had to be at least three times the size. The line was literally wrapping around the corner. There was also some type of show being filmed close by so there was a lot of people in the area. The line moved slowly and randomly cops showed up in an unmarked car hopped out and made everyone disperse. I heard they also released the Air Max 1 “Liquid Metal” as well so that could have caused a little more craziness.

People obviously tried to lurk around but cops didn’t seem to be having it. I waited there for like 10 minutes then made moves elsewhere. I wouldn’t doubt that they’d end up doing tickets at a random time or something but at that point I gave up [Laughs].

I was pretty deep in the back of the line but there didn’t seem to be any violence going on at all. When the cops came they just made everyone disperse. No one was getting arrested or anything like that. I think simply a mixture of the snow all over the place/sneakerheads/and surroundings [is why] NYPD decided to just shut it down before it got out of hand. Sad for people to waste their time. There has to be a better way.

Apparently they shut the line down for an hour roughly and then let people get tickets. Then they completely cut the line off at 5 PM [Note: The raffle was originally supposed to run until 5 PM]. I guess the people who waited around aimlessly wasting their day won.”
