American designer and cultural icon Virgil Abloh has taken to his personal Instagram account to show off the very first OFF-WHITE x Nike Air Jordan 1 Sample.
The Air Jordan 1 sample shown in the photos has been deconstructed using an X-Acto knife, and all that is left behind are the white leather panels that make up the collar, Swoosh insignia and lace guards. On the midsole, “Air Bag” is seen in Abloh’s signature double quotation marks. Along with the photos, Abloh shared, “there was a time when getting Michael Jordan’s autograph was a major life goal…?an X-Acto knife and this off the shelf pair of Jordan 1’s and The Ten came to fruition. this is the exact pair that kicked off an epiphany.”
Taken in 2016, the sample is what led the way to one of the best sneaker collaborations from the past decade. In case you’ve missed it, here’s a closer look at the OFF-WHITE x Nike Air Rubber Dunk “University Gold.”
