In a new column kicking off today, Nice Kicks will salute a memorable Air Force 1 each Friday in an ongoing series titled “Air Force Friday.”????????

This Friday we rewound the clock 8 years to have a look at the first edition of the West Indies Air Force 1. Released in the summer of 2002, this shoe was dropped in time for the West Indian Day Parade that takes place each summer in Brooklyn, NY.

To some maybe this was just a simple white/green colorway with a West Indies logo placed throughout the shoe as well as a call out 15 island nations on the insole, this shoe was about pride. Nike took it a step further with removing the Nike Air branding on the tongue and debray replacing it with the West Indies logo including the silhouettes of each nation surrounding the West Indies logo on the debray.

The West Indies Air Force 1 series continued for several years ending in 2006 with the release of the 4th edition; however, like the Puerto Rico AF1 series, it came to an end in the year that was the celebration of the AF1’s 25th anniversary. ?Hopefully one day we will see this series return.

Every head has a story or two to tell. ?Did you own these? ?What did this shoe mean to you? ?Click here to?reminisce.
