Releasing two new singles last week that are gaining momentum on the charts, Canada’s Majid Jordan excels in other avenues besides making music. Besides serving as an up and coming R&B duo, OVO members Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman also happen to be some of the most fashionable people in streetwear at the moment. Their style also happens to complement each other so well that some of their music videos look like they could’ve been shooting a Stone Island or ASICS campaign.
In today’s world of fashion, the tides have completely turned. Suddenly, simply having a unique aesthetic is not enough to win over the minds of the consumer. Now, performance and function are in, which is why we’re seeing stylized rain jackets, reflective elements, and technical footwear options like ASICS carving out their own lane in fashion. Majid Jordan has mastered this trend to a T. And what’s more is that they can make something as plain as a blank t-shirt look like the most versatile fashion essential in their wardrobe.
That and some Air Force 1s, of course.
Making a Fashion Presence with a Force
Both members in Majid Jordan seem to have a sixth sense for fashion in the regard that they don’t necessarily need to rep the latest sneaker collaborations or even the most coveted silhouettes to make an impressive statement. It’s their effortless ability to wear unique pieces with such ease that makes it easy to stand out. One of their regular style hacks is implementing Air Force 1s into their rotation. Not the latest OFF-WHITE iterations, nothing with Supreme on it, nor a one-off offering. Simply the plain white ones.
In an era that’s seeing a ’90s style resurgence, the duo has seamlessly adopted the wildly simplistic trend into their own wardrobes with an East Coast flair. What’s more is that it’s not that complex either. One of their popular looks is darker color palettes with outerwear that’s built to stand up to the frigid temperatures of their Canadian homefront. This look might consist of boxy fitting flight jackets, 1/4 zip pullovers, and wide-legged trousers. On a slightly simpler note and when the weather warms up, the tucked in plain white tee, loose-fitting trousers, braided belts, and all-white AF1s has worked wonders for them in terms of versatility.
Tech Talk
It’s no secret that both Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman have an affinity for technical apparel, like reflective windbreakers, Stone Island jackets, and tailored cargos with concealed pockets. Technical apparel calls for technical footwear. Or at least tech-inspired footwear. The boys have frequently been spotted wearing variations of ASICS and Onitsuka Tiger classics. They were even the frontmen for the ASICS Tiger GEL-Kayano Trainer “Space Dye Knit” iteration with an exclusive video campaign created at the OVO studios.
As far as other ASICS styles, they’ve also worn plenty of GEL-Lyte IIIs, Onitsuka Tiger MT Samsaras, and GSMs. Remember the ASICS Stone Island music video campaign? Check out their video for “Small Talk” — the evidence is all there. The duo is mainly wearing a minimalist wardrobe with essentials, like tailored bomber jackets, tapered trousers, sportswear shells, and patterned sweaters. From a footwear perspective, Majid Jordan has often been known to wear sophisticated offerings from Filling Pieces as well as adidas Sambas and Air Max 270s. The more performance-oriented the apparel is the more performance-oriented their footwear selection will be and vice-versa.
