As many of you may already know, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the animated film that holds a sentimental place in sneaker culture, Space Jam. Featuring Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes cast of characters pinned against the seemingly unstoppable Monstars, the film quickly became a cult classic, and inspired an Air Jordan 11 in the process.
The “Space Jam” 11’s, among the most revered Jordan colorways of any kind, may in fact return for the film’s 20th anniversary. Today, an alleged photo of the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” 2016 retro surfaced. The image seen here has not been confirmed as the actual release, and Jordan Brand has not yet commented on the situation.
However, in looking at the shoe, shining with a radiant white midsole and translucent outer, it’s hard to believe this isn’t a 2016 iteration. All older models are yellowed, and certainly don’t look this fresh.
Stay tuned for more on the potential release of the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” this year. As always, we’ll update a Jordan Release Date if and when one is available.
UPDATE: We have confirmed with sources that the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” will release in 2016 as a retro to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Warner Brother’s film, Space Jam, that featured Michael Jordan as the star character.
