Abstract art? In the sneaker world and in popular culture, sometimes work is only valued as highly as its co-sign. Designed by the celebrated Tinker Hatfield but never worn by the iconic Michael Jordan, the Air Jordan XV was more angular and irregular than any AJ before or after. Due to its lack of endorsement in the pro game, and thus, lack of popularity on shoe shelves, the AJ XV was revamped for college hoops nine years later with the release of the?Air Jordan XV SE.

Team oriented and safer in styling, the AJ XV SE clipped the kick-out tongue and took down the molded mudguard. Woven upper, heel shape, and heel stripe were carried over on the first modern re-make that wasn?t driven by updated technology or retro appeal. While the SE cut back on the attributes that made the OG cutting edge, the ?Bragging Rights? Pack took school spirit to a whole new level by stamping the UNC argyle and Georgetown cloth print on Finish Line exclusive colorways.

Though the OG XV and the XV SE both brought respective innovation, neither saw the star power or incredible performances that made other Air Jordans iconic. Woven uppers and school exclusives are as popular as ever, but one can only imagine just how popular the shoes would?ve been had Michael Jordan played in them. Like any piece of art though, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. The OG XV was certainly more progressive than its SE adaptation, but the college colorways made the revamp more?accessible?and thus more embraced in the retail realm. In hindsight, which Air Jordan XV design do you prefer?
